St Michael's School is based upon the Mission of living honest and loving lives with the school motto of 'To Truth By Love'.
With the underlying values of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary we achieve our mission through having honour and respect for God, ourselves, others and the environment. Our mission is to foster the spirituality of every student. We nurture children’s integral formation, through the growth of the whole person and interior formation, assisting children to understand the Spirit of Christ, which is, in essence our core belief. We have weekly whole-school liturgies or prayer celebrations and assemblies to celebrate our many student achievements and worship God. We are also a Reef Guardian School enjoying learning about our great national treasure and taking care of our local beach. Our school caters for around 130 students from prep to grade 6.
As part of the local Indigenous community we involve community members on a regular basis and incorporate culture throughout our curriculum. Our cultural celebrations include community-wide celebrations throughout the school year, along with specialised cultural afternoons led by our Indigenous staff. St Michael’s School regularly has a dance team which is selected from students with good attendance, appropriate behaviour and effort in class. Our dance team performes in NAIDOC Week events, special occasions and at the Palm Island Spring Fair. St Michael’s School students are proud of an opportunity to explore and celebrate their Indigeneity and demonstrate pride in their cultural heritage.
Our recent achievements in sport include winning the regional athletics carnival in our division as a Palm Island community (St Michael’s School and Bwgcolman Community School combined) and participating in Townsville district netball and football carnivals.
